Delivery Technologies

PowerStream is constantly evaluating new streaming technologies in streaming media. If the technology meets our standards of reliabibility and is useful to our clients, then we will expose the the technology after it has been implemented in various datacenters and stress tested. See the list below for the currently exposed Delivery Technologies that PowerStream is utilizing:

Darwin Streaming Server

Darwin Streaming Server

While sharing the same code base as QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS), Darwin Streaming Server (DSS) is an open source project intended for developers who need to stream QuickTime and MPEG-4 media on alternative platforms such as Windows, Linux, and Solaris, or those developers who need to extend and/or modify the existing streaming server code to fit their needs. DSS and QTSS are built on a core server that provides quality of service features like Skip protection and Instant-On, and support for the digital media standards, MPEG-4 and 3GPP.

Windows Media Service Provider

SHOUTcast

SHOUTcast is a proprietary streaming server created by NullSoft and now managed by America Online that is often used for distributing MP3 streams to various Internet Radios and iTunes. SHOUTcast is cross-platform software for streaming media over the Internet.

Windows Media Service Provider

Microsoft  - Windows Media Provider

PowerStream was one of the first one hundred companies accepted into the Windows Media Service Provider program in 1998. As a testament to our strength, more than 75% of the first one hundred no longer exist. PowerStream continues to expand our offerings of Windows Media Services with enhanced products and superior delivery architecture.

Wowza Media Systems

Wowza Media Systems

Wowza Media Systems, based in Evergreen, CO is a streaming media server software company. The company was founded in late 2005 by David Stubenvoll and Charlie Good when they saw a need to provide a disruptive product to fill the gaps in the Flash media server market. Wowza's industrial strength Wowza Media Server software experienced rapid market acceptance, and with a 2009 introduction of Wowza Media Server 2, the world’s first unified media server, Wowza took it beyond Flash by adding streaming support for Apple iPhone/iPad and iPod touch, Microsoft Silverlight, Apple QuickTime, Android, BlackBerry and other mobile devices, and IPTV set-tops.
